Speaking at ASCAP's "Talk Score to Me" panel
Nicolas had the distinct honor of being part of the TALK SCORE TO ME discussion panel at the Los Angeles Film Festival, moderated by ASCAP's Jennifer Harmon. This was also the public screening for all Project Involve/Film Independent films. Nicolas scored the short film, Debris (Escombros) for director, Mary-Lyn Chambers.Inspired by the child humanitarian crisis of 2014, the film follows 12-year-old Ana, escaping violence and exploitation by her father, arriving at a US border detention center with nothing but the clothes on her back, her mute and fragile brother and a treasured family music box - She thought the worst was behind them, but Ana learns that their journey for freedom has just begun. At its core, Debris is about survival, family, sacrifice, freedom, and love.During the panel, Nicolas discussed his composition process and his collaboration with the gifted vocalist, Ayana Haviv, and cellist, Karen Garrity. Both Ayana and Karen are the featured musicians. The score was recorded and mixed by Grammy-winning music engineer, Les Brockmann.Nicolas was also featured on ASCAP's "Composer Spotlight" for the Los Angeles Film Festival.The film will now starts its film festival run.
